ELNAK Recycle
Step into the world of ELNAK Recycle, an African fashion brand driven by a revolutionary spirit and a vision to transform textile waste management in Africa. Previously known as the 1997 Thrift Store, they are on a mission to help textile-centered businesses and households incorporate sustainable practices, promoting minimalism and essentialism.
In 2020, their founder, Emma Forson, embarked on a one-year journey with the Ashesi Venture Incubator, researching the fashion industry in Ghana. She discovered a lack of textile waste management facilities in Ghana and other parts of Africa, leading to an alarming surge in textile waste pollution caused by overconsumption and increased imports of secondhand clothes.
ELNAK was born in 2021, driven by the desire to make a positive impact on the environment and people. By mid-2022, they had collected over 5000 pounds of textile waste to be repurposed and donated over 800 pounds of clothes in good condition. Their decluttering services received rave reviews, and they proudly partnered with 6 fashion houses and collaborated with three feature artists to upcycle their collectibles. Moreover, the brand provided employment to 4 Kayayo women, empowering them with sustainable job opportunities.
